Cervical Smear Tests

Cervical smears are FREE between the ages of 25-60. Please register at www.cervicalcheck.ie to obtain your ID number.

Dr Deirdre Nevin and both our female nurses are fully registered with CervicalCheck the National Screening organisation, as are both Dr. John Veale and Dr. Gavin Treanor.

A smear test (sometimes called a pap test) is a simple procedure where a doctor or nurse (smeartaker) takes sample cells from the cervix (neck of the womb) to look for early changes.  A smear test can identify cell changes BEFORE they become cancer cells. Early detection means early intervention and therefore means best possible outcome.
